What does the species look like?

Soft greeneyes is an erect, perennial, herbaceous plant (forb to subshrub), growing 0.75 to 3 feet tall. Its flowerheads comprise a ring of deep yellow to orange-yellow ray flowers having only female parts, and surrounding a cluster of red to maroon disk flowers that have both male and female parts that function as males.

Soft greeneyes is found in sandy soils along roadsides and woodland borders, in sand dunes, fields, and open woodlots.
