Ceanothus cuneatus

The seeds of this shrub are cached by harvester ants. Its seeds can then stay alive but dormant for many years, and they require fire for germination.

What does the species look like?

This evergreen shrub reaches up to 3 meters in height and has a spreading or sprawling shape.  The twigs are round, grey, and glabrous. The leaves are opposite, stiff, and may be slightly toothed.   The flowers are 5 millimeters wide and are white, pale blue, blue or lavender in color. They are found in rounded bunches on short thick stalks.

Ceanothus cuneatus is found on dry fans, slopes, and ridges at elevations less than 1800 meters.
