What does the species look like?

Tufted evening primrose is a low and mounding, perennial, herbaceous plant, growing up to 12 inches tall or more. Its large, showy, fragrant, white flowers have both male and female parts, and occur individually on short stems from the base of the plant. Its flowers are insect-pollinated.

Tufted evening primrose prefers well-drained, rocky, sandy soils in full sun. It is found in open desert scrub, rocky flats and slopes, and playas, sandy washes, grasslands, and pinyon/juniper woodlands, up to coniferous and bristlecone pine forests, and along roadsides and disturbed sites.
